Tane Mahuta - Waipoua Forest

Most people stop in on Tane Mahuta as a matter of course, but it took us 6 years to take our kids in, despite passing through Waipoua Forest several times a year.  That's pretty slack.  We dropped in a few months back and it was such a short and sweet detour I kicked myself for not doing it sooner...

Tane Mahuta sits just a couple of minutes down a track directly off the main road.  The walk is so beautiful, the peaceful close-knit forest such a departure from the relentless noise of car travel.

There are other beautiful stopovers in the Waipoua Forest, but if you're strapped for time you can still fit this one in.  Call it a toilet stop (there's one opposite) while you're kiddos stretch their legs.

Do you have any beautiful local landmarks that you just never get round to visiting?  Please tell me it's not just us...
