Maranui Cafe, Lyall Bay

As a finale for our midwinter roadie, we planned such a quick trip to the Wellington.  Time enough to visit some favourite spots and a few new ones.  We were fortunate enough to travel from Palmerston North with a friend, who was happy to tour the bays with us before she went home.  Such a pretty way to enter the city, bypassing all the city bits (for now) and heading straight to the water's edge.

We tried a little seal spotting on our way around, but I always end up too distracted by the cute houses and little boat sheds.  I have many happy memories of picnicking in those tiny bays,  truly one of the prettiest parts of Wellington IMO.

Finishing in Lyall Bay, we stopped to lunch at Maranui Cafe (on the recommendation of so many).  There was a bit of a wait for tables, but our meals were worth it (though pricey).  Pancakes all round, and a big breakfast for my guy. The Foxton Fizz Spiders, aside from being a sugar-loaded-uber-treat, were the most fun for the kids.  Two treats in one.  Plus pancakes.  #spoilt.

I'm always in favour of quirk, so the venue and all that memorabilia were perfect (plus that view!).  Vintage arcade games - tick.  Historic pics of Surf Lifesavers - tick.  Syrup-laden pancakes - tick.  Erm... Where was I...?

The only real negative (other than the $$$) was that the staff weren't particularly friendly, but they were also right in the middle of their lunch rush and hella busy.  They can def be forgiven.

A cool place to stop, for the view, the cool setting and the yum food.  Just maybe don't arrive half-starved at 12pm.
