KCWC - Day six & seven

Nothing about KCWC has gone quite to plan.  This wee cardi (based very closely on this one) took twice as long as I thought it would to put together.  But it's finished, and so is KCWC...  I'm a little relieved to be honest, much as I have (mostly) enjoyed it.  I know that if it hadn't been for this challenge, I would never have gotten all these items made, but now it's time to return my energy to other pursuits.  Some new sewing projects, some commissioned works, and a few other little side projects.

I went with decorative buttons in the end, with hidden snaps.  Much easier all round.

It suits this little brown-eyed chap just perfectly.  Just in time for summer, haha!

KCWC - Day five

I didn't quite manage to make it back here yesterday, but here is the wee skirt.  It didn't turn out exactly as I saw it in my head.  For instance, I had no vision of what the waistband would be (I just knew I didn't want too much black), and I had to add some extra length to the skirt which changed the look too.  But overall I'm very pleased.  I had an excess of mint coloured fabric that I think works perfectly, and I love how the black bunting/colourful relief turned out.  Of course there are many mistakes and imperfections, as with any of my homemade clothing, but it really doesn't matter to me.

And I got to use some teeny pieces of gorgeous fabric....  *siiiiiigh*

Last night I did some sewing for Garland.  Almost finished that, so hopefully I can show you tomorrow... x

KCWC Day four/A sunny morning/Fabric giveaway

As you can see I had a little trouble deciding on a title this morning.

Well, between needy babies, uncooperative sewing machines, and a yukky head-achey, sore throaty cold that I came down with last night - the universe hasn't exactly been helping me get all my sewing done this week.  I decided I was too tired to do much last night, so I focused on cutting out the pieces for a skirt I am making Eleanor.  And then I ended up sewing the first strip together.  I'm pretty excited about this skirt, it's pretty different from anything else she has in her wardrobe, which either means it will get worn a lot, or not at all.  Hmm, jumping ahead much?  I'll finish it first, and then see...

This morning, aside from feeling pretty rubbish, I reveled in the summery weather, and did a little bit of gardening before taking the kiddos for a walk.  I think this is gonna be a good summer.

We picked some roses while out on our walk, from a lovely wildish bush growing along our road.  Just in time to replace the forget-me-nots we picked last time.

My gardening pally, snug as a bug in our most recent (and worth it's weight in gold) investment.

I might not be the world's best, or most natural gardener, but I am getting excited about our garden this season.  I'm wary of the fact that I often get most excited about a garden in the planning/planting out stages, but then tend to lose interest/focus later on, so I'm hoping to work out a strategy for sustaining my interest this time.  We are also hoping to build a chicken pen and get some of those too, which I'm pretty thrilled about.  It's been a long-time ambition of mine to own chickens.

And I mentioned a few days ago that I had some fabric to give away.  This little bundle is from the Kate Spain, Honey Honey collection.  These fat quarters are surplus to my requirements, so I thought I'd share the love...

If you would like to win them, just leave a comment below and I will pick a winner at some stage.  Yeah, I'm being deliberately vague about when.  I dunno, enter now and then you're unlikely to miss the window.

KCWC - Day One

I was all set to do so much sewing last night, but alas, a little guy had other plans for me.  Anyway, I did sneak in time to do a little but of re-styling, and I'm almost there on a third item.  Maybe tonight I'll finish it.

From this:

Even though I'm not a huge fan of purple, I was somewhat sad that after accidentally wearing it to playcentre, it had become official playcentre-wear.  Perhaps it's because we rarely buy clothes new, or maybe I just really like purple in this instance, but I was determined to reclaim this sweater.  I actually never "loved" ;-) the emblem on the front, so that and the paint-damaged sleeves were both reworked.

Perfect Springtime clothing for a busy girl.  The applique came from a tee-shirt designed and screenprinted by Rosa-May.  Sadly I washed the tee with something red, and have not been able to wear it since.  I'm glad the print has found a new home.

KCWC - Prologue

I guess it's cheating, but I actually started last night.  It began with sketching out ideas and choosing fabric, and ended with:

An almost completed long-sleeved raglan shirt.  I mostly followed this tutorial okay, I looked at the pictures... but I think I have some unpicking to do tonight, and I'm completely redoing the collar (this time with rib knit - if I can find some - limited resources out here in the country...).

The circus fabric is from Spoonflower.  I freakin' love that place, my favourites list is a mile long... And not too expensive atm, thanks to the exchange rate. I ordered a fat quarter of this, and a swatch of some Heather Ross.  I was hoping the swatch would be enough to create a front panel for a baby tee, but it's a little too small so I'm going to come up with another plan.  The other knit fabric I used was thrifted in Maryborough.  Fyi I just made this fabric available for sale, in case any of y'all are interested.

Be prepared for many more KCWC posts this week, I already have tonight's project lined up...
